Nigeria Kills Fifty of Militants in Borno Operation
A Defence Headquarters spokesperson says the operation follows a precision airstrike in the Kirta and Arina Ciki areas of the Lake Chad region, where multiple insurgent leaders are targeted.
Among those killed is Khalifa Umar, described by the military as a member of ISWAP’s Shura Council, which serves as the group’s top decision-making body.
The report says Umar plays a key role in strategic planning, operational coordination, and leadership decisions within the group.
Security forces also arrest three suspected ISWAP logistics suppliers and informants near Maiduguri, while a soldier accused of desertion and alleged criminal links is detained.
Troops also conduct patrols in the Kukawa area, engaging fleeing militant scouts and recovering ammunition, according to reports.
